Bats are the only mammals that can fly. They are nocturnal, roosting by day and flying at night in search of flying insects, their principal food. Bats like to roost in dark places such as caves and hollow trees but they have adapted easily to attics, chimneys, and other areas of the home. We frequently do not realize that they are there. Bats found inside the home or roosting on porches, etc in warm months were surely disturbed or routed from their normal habitat. Bats are not easily controlled as they are protected under the endangered species list. One way to safely rid your home of this mammal is to “build them out”. Find the hole where they are getting into to roost and block that entrance. We suggest sitting on your porch in the evening and try to watch where they are coming out of when they go and feed.
