An adult flea is about 1/8 inch long with a flat, brownish black body but can be a reddish color after a feeding. Female fleas lay about 4-8 eggs after each feeding and their eggs can hatch anywhere from 1-12 days . The eggs can be found on a dog or cats hair or in the carpet but are carried in the home by the animal or even by us. A common misconception is that fleas live in the grass or yard but really they are just looking for a host. We recommend getting your animal treated along with getting your home treated to solve the problem.
