Spiders
Spiders feed only on other insects, therefore are really beneficial. But nobody wants them around their house. Of the many species in our area, only 2 (both rare in the area) are really dangerous. The Black Widow spider is shiny black, 1-1 ½ inches in diameter with the underside of the abdomen marked with a reddish hour glass. Their bite is serious, painful, and can be fatal. The other is the Brown Recluse spider or “Fiddelback” spider. It is light brown, 3/4-1 inch in diameter with a distinct violin shape in a darker brown on top of the head. Their bite is very serious, painful, but seldom fatal.
